Boo! Hah!

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

So, after some time has elapsed, I am happy to report that Comic-Con 2009 went very well…

Everyone loved “The Lost Hieroglyph” demo, especially the fact that it was stop-motion animation.  Big ups to my new amigos over at StopMotionAnimation.com for much advice, counsel and goofiness!  Actually, I’ll never be able to say enough good things about the people involved with this old, rare, special craft.

I got to spend quality time with the wonderful folk from Weta, the effects house who brought us “The Lord of The Rings,” “Narnia”, “King Kong” and soon, “Avatar” and “Tin Tin”.  Richard Taylor, Greg Broadmore, Dave Tremont and Tim Launder, among others, couldn’t have been more gracious.   Just a few of the amazing, cool people I met those four crazy days in San Diego:  the Shiflett Brothers, Francisco Herrera, Dave Spurlock of Vanguard Productions and Philip Kim of the revived “Famous Monsters of Filmland.”  As a result, I’m now working for his magazine.  :-D

Work continues at a much more modest pace on “The Lost Hieroglyph” right now, as I shoulder my new duties, but look for another, upgraded version of Episode One by the end of this year.

Where Are You?

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

…I’m making a movie.  Well, a demo trailer for a series, actually.  I’ve been working on the project since December 2008, preparing a demo DVD for Comic-Con.  Are you going?  Hope to see you there!

Well Done, Sir

Thank you, Mr. President, for a class act as a start to your watch. Keep going; we’re right behind you.

Make Hope Happen: Let's Get To Work

What? You’re Back? But You Just Left!

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Um, my holiday plans went awry, so I’m back home in Big Sur and settling in.

(You bet — there’s a HELL of a tale behind that simple statement.
When my brain returns from the dry-cleaners I’ll fill you in. Sort of.)

Holiday Greetings

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Whe-he-hell, if it isn’t the Phantom Blatherer.

I’m off, like a prom dress, on another holiday cruise with Mom. This time it’s Valparaiso to Buenos Aires, with stops in Chilean fjords, Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia and other rugged places. Just the thing for a bracing hike after stuffing oneself with shipboard viands. Mom is mad for tango, so Clubfoot here may be hustled onto a dance floor. No pictures, please.

2008 was a very full year; the American Presidential election (bueno!), the Big Sur fires (muy malo), several deaths in our small community (tan triste), and, for me personally, a burst of creative productivity (ole!). A lot of cool new people came into my life, and for all the good things, as well as the mighty lessons, I am profoundly grateful.

Winter Solstice

On this Pausing Day,
When so many nod to their ancestors’ wisdom
And feel again the sacred thrum
Of celestial spirituality and a longing for the Light,
May that Light, upon its return,
Return us all to itself.

Forget the Pictures — Where are You?

*KCHZZZK*…This is [blacked out] reporting from an undisclosed location. I am well and in charge [blacked out] I have been working on film projects [blacked out] and the Groovium website. Look for more nonsense, bile, stone-strange stuff and whooey soon.

Where the Pictures?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

“Where are the pictures?” you may ask. Well, truly, they’re not yet visible for the same reasons the rest of my website ebbs and flows in its manifestation. (All the “Lorem ipsum” copy you’d eh-ver wanna read.) Those reasons include work, play, fire, accidents, travel, evacuation, general hyperactivity and dementia.

There will be all manner of eye candy forthcoming. Really. Honest.

Back Home

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Sophie and I are safe and back home in our beloved Big Sur and things are returning to normal. The signs of the fire are everywhere yet out of sight — the Big Sur Valley and the ocean side of the highway are green and intact, almost all the businesses are open and the highway is clear right through, and yet…whole mountains are now cinders and the flames ate 5000 acres deep in the interior wilderness just last night.

Here’s a story about some friends and neighbors; I was there on the firehose with Captain Tommy, Sal, and Young John at the Healey homes that night.

Worthy People

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Whilst I ready my thoughts and marshall my words on matters great and small (and get a round tuit — it’s here somewhere), Check out some of my friends’ webspaces.

Linda and Toby Roland-Jones are two of the neatest people I know. Toby and I are on the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade together; Linda is a vision of beauty, fun and light, and a remarkable writer

Sofanya is a dear friend, a lovely woman, a talented artist and a gallery owner.

Bruce Damer and his wife Galen do so many amazing things that they need a huge website to note them all!

Charley Manske and Dr. Dawn Motyka are the parents of Spooky, one of Sophie’s pups. They’re also neato folks. Charley does wonderful things with computers and video; Dawn is a doctor with her own radio show.

Steve Sanders manages to walk the Eightfold Path and sell cars for a living at the same time. He’s worth your time.

More links as I assemble them.

Greetings
